Delhi, India’s capital is often called the City of Djinns. Located on the banks of the river Yamuna, it served as the city served as capital to several dynasties which ruled a greater part of the country during the Middle Ages. Delhi has been built and rebuilt eight times throughout its history. The city is believed to be the site of Indraprastha which was the capital of the Pandavas, the heros of the epic Mahabharata.

Zakir Hussain Museum

This museum is located within the premises of the Jamia Millia Islamia University which is located in south Delhi. The museum was constructed in 1972 in the memory of Dr. Zakir Hussain who was India’s third president and to preserve his memorabilia. It contains several items which were used by Zakir Hussain who played a major role in the propagation of education within the country. It also has items and objects which is used during his lifetime such as mementos, memorabilia and photographs.

India War Memorial Museum

Located within the Red Fort, this museum is dedicated to the Indian soldiers who participated in the World War on the behalf of the British both in India and abroad. It can be reached from the north and south of the building which faces towards the eastern direction. The first gallery has diorama which shows the first battle of Panipat with the armies of Ibrahim Lodhi and Babur facing each other.

The major items which are on display here include revolvers, machine guns, shells, khukris, arrows and swords. There are also different types of daggers which have inscribed hilts made from ivory, chest armour, small weapons such as gupti and battle axes. Armours, helmets and various types of swords and daggers have been put on display at Gallery No. 2 and 3.

Shells, pistol models, gun powder flusks and bomb fuses have been kept on display to offer a clear picture of the ammunition which was used during First World War. The last two galleries show the impact of industrialization in warfare and communication as telephone, radars, telegraph, signal lamps, guns with periscope and trench periscope were introduced during the war.

Another major attraction which you will get to see here is the complete dress of Jodhpur’s Maharaja. This is a place which is frequented by people who have a deep interest in military history.

Ghalib Museum & Library

This museum is frequented by people who have a deep love for Urdu literature. It is located opposite to the shrine of Nizamuddin Aulia. It was constructed in the memory of the famous Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib who was the court poet of Bahadur Shah Zafar the last Mughal emperor. It has a poetic ambience and has several ornamental canopies and decorations which will make you feel as if you are standing in the middle of the Mughal court. It also has an auditorium, art gallery, museum and library. If you are travelling from other tourist locations like Jaipur, you may opt for flights from Jaipur to Delhi as these are prompt and completely reliable.

A statue of Mirza Ghalib along with his pictures, books and other important documents have been put on display here. Within the library, you will come across a collection of Ghalib’s poems along with that of a number of contemporary poets. The museum is open daily except on Sunday from 11 Am to 6 Pm.

Archeological Museum

Archeological museum is located with Red Fort. It has several paintings and textile costumes of the Mughal period which attract people. One section of the museum contains relics of the Great Revolt of 1857 such as maps and weapons and are of great interest to people who have great liking for history. The museum is open between 9 Am-5 Pm on a regular basis.
