The 3rd largest as well as the most populous city in Karnataka state, Mysore has officially been renamed to Mysuru. The city is famous for its historical beautiful structures which include the famous Mysore palace. The other things that the city is famous for are Mysore Pak, Sandal Soap, Mysore silk sarees and the beautiful Mysore temples.

Mysore is also famous for its world famous Mysore Dosa different versions of which are available in many South Indian restaurants.

The city is one of the famous tourist’s destinations of South India. People specially visit Mysore to witness its royal and rich heritage and culture. The culture of the city is reflected best by its museums, temples etc.

1)    Chamundeshwari Temple –
This is one of the most famous temples of Mysore which is located on Chamundi Hill and is dedicated to Goddess Durga. The temple is said to be constructed by Woedyar Dynasty who worshiped goddess Durga. There are 1000 steps in the temple which one has to climb to reach the holy area.
2)    Someshwara Temple – This temple again was built by Woedyar dynasty in the 13th century. The temple attracts people with its beautiful architecture. The 3 shrines of the temple are dedicated each to Lord Narayana, Lord Shiva, and goddess Somasundari.  During the festival time, the temple is beautifully decorated and people visit especially to witness the beauty of this place.
3)    ISKCON Temple – ISKCON temple is another stunning piece of art that people especially come to see in Mysore. The temple has the idols of Lord Krishna and is maintained by the followers of Lord Krishna. Prasad is served to the visitors of the temple on every Sunday. On occasions like Janmashtami, Holi, and Ekadashi many visitors come to the temple to worship Lord Krishna.
4)    Gayathri Temple – Gayathri Temple was built in 1953 by Jayachamaraja Woedyar who was Mysore’s last Maharaja. The temple is situated along with other temples in the Mysuru Palace. It has 3 shrines for Gayathri, Laxmi, and Savitri.
5)    Lord Shrikantenshwara Temple – This temple is dedicated to Lord Shrikantenshwara who drank the poison which he extracted from the sea. The temple has a magnificent building to see which tourists specially visit it.
